April 12, 2003

The tarp has finally come off after what seems to have been an endlessly cold winter. Preparations are now being made so that Woodwind can be launched in the last days of April. Preparations for launch include re-stuffing the stuffing box, sanding the hull and applying several coats of all season bottom paint, installation of new zinc's and installation of new spreaders. The sails are ready to be picked up from the sail maker after a complete overhaul. All that is required are some warm days to do the work..

May 8

9:00 am Woodwind was launched, engine fired up and motored to the mast crane where the mast was stepped. After a thorough scrub down the sails were put up and woodwind was set for it's shakedown cruise.

May 11

Heavy fog and serve thunderstorm warnings were determining factors in the cancellation of race 1 of the spring series. A good day for cleaning the interior and working on odds and ends.

May, June, July, August

Where has the time gone? The last two months have been spent readying the boat and the crew for the journey with very little sailing being done. Poor weather this summer has been a hinderance in going sailing. An unusually many days have been spent in harbour under foggy conditions. August has not been any better so far.
