"Miah Maull Shoal Light, Delaware"

"Anchored In Boot Key Harbour"

"Dockside, Marathon Florida"

The photographic image is created by the simple phenomenon of reflected light. How light is captured and processed can be varied in numerous ways.

I have utilized a variety of cameras, large format, 35mm, pinhole, home-made plywood box and digital, to capture my images. The process used in creating subsequent images range from traditional Black & White film to cyanotype and gum-bichromate.

As an artist I favour the gum-bichromate process. This alternative to conventional printing gives me the opportunity to achieve painterly expression in my portrait, still life and everyday scenes.

In the gum-printing process, the imager has control over both the tonality and detail of the work. As in painting, adding layers of different pigments makes a rich and textured image. I continue to work on the prints adding localized areas of colour and texture, and enhancing the highlights and shadows.

I also frame my work in a manner that integrates the artwork and the framework. This is done by using found objects, scrap wood and numerous other materials and combining this with old art frames. Old window frames, stripped and refinished, also add to the character of these images.

Further integration with other media includes the use of canvas and acrylic paints, as well as, other chemicals such as liquid light. These non silver processes and their integration with other mediums has opened the door to unlimited creative exploration.
